Thurman Munson Single Autographed Baseball for
Sale Thurman Munson (June 7, 1947 – August 2, 1979) was
an American Major League Baseball catcher who played his entire 11-year
professional baseball career for the New York Yankees (1969–1979). He was
a seven-time All-Star, three-time Gold Glove winner, and is the only
Yankee to win both the Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards. Considered the "heart and soul" of the Yankees,
Munson was named the first team captain since Lou Gehrig. He led the
Yankees to three consecutive World Series appearances from 1976 to 1978,
and two consecutive World Series championships from 1977 to 1978. Munson died at age 32 while practicing landing his
Cessna Citation at Akron-Canton Airport. Munson remains high on the list of desired
autographs for collectors. As a player, Munson could be quite difficult to
approach and was known to say "no" more than "yes" when asked to sign.
Therefore, his autograph is in short supply. The most desirable Munson
signatures date to his early years in the league (1971-72) where he signed
every letter of his name, "Thurman Munson." As the years passed, Munson
shortened his signature. He's most commonly found on team-signed balls,
3x5s and programs. Rarely is Munson's signature found on single-signed
balls or bats. Both bring a premium in the open market with a single
baseball selling for over $17,000.00 in the past. My grandfather, Ben Rosenthal, had the opportunity
to meet Thurman at a trade show in New York when I was a child. He obtained a single signed
autographed baseball and a personalized autographed 8x10 picture for me a year
or two before Thurman passed away. These
have been in my sole possession since they were autographed. After many
years, I am interested in selling the baseball to a qualified individual. For the Thurman Munson single autographed
baseball, I am currently considering all serious offers.
